“And he thought within himself, saying, What shall I do, because I have no room where to bestow my fruits? 18. And he said, this will I do: I will pull down my barns, and build greater; and there will I bestow all my fruits and my goods.” Luke 1:17-18
This passage of the scripture, was a parable that Christ gave about a certain Rich man Mind-set. Luke 12:16-31. He manifested a foolish Mind-set. A person is a fool to store up earthly wealth but not have a rich/robust relationship with God.
In verse 19, the Bible says; ‘’And I will say to my soul, Soul, thou hast much goods laid up for many years; take thine ease, eat, drink and be merry.’’ He manifested his Mind-set towards things he does not have control over. He does not have control over natural disaster that could happen and destroy the store house where he kept the goods and fruits. He does not have control over the numbers of years he will live on earth. He does not have control over his soul.
Manifesting our Minds just towards the riches of this world without a sound and solid relationship with God, has eternal consequences of separation from God. We are established in God’s RIGHTEOUSNESS NOT IN RICHES says the word of God.
It is good to think and plan for the future. It is good and safe to save and invest towards the future. It is wisdom to upgrade our career and profession towards the future. It is not out of place to attend courses, seminars, workshops, conferences to be better at taking strategic decisions for our future business growth. But it is dangerous to leave God out of our plans. The rich man Mind-set left God out of his plan. He never consider God who gave him the resources to be rich in the first place. Is Mind was carnal and destitute of spiritual value.
Is it wrong for a Christian to be rich? No. is it wrong for a Christian to crave to enjoy financial and material prosperity? No. But it is wrong for our Mind-set as Christians to only pray, plan, focus and labour for earthly riches at the detriment of godly virtues, fruits of the Spirit, lifestyle of faith in the living God, and being occupied with eternity in view.
The rich man never set his Mind on helping people with the resources that God gave him. His Mind-set was all about SELF. Christ manifested the Mind-set of selfless sacrificial love for humanity. He laid down His life for us. The rich man could not lay down his riches to bless others. All he wanted was just to eat, drink and be merry. The rich man never thought of how to use his riches to establish institutions, businesses, charitable foundations to help others, but he was rather stingy in his Mind. The mouth speaks, the body acts based on what has been programmed into our mind.
Though this was a parable, but is this true about your Mind-set today? Remember, your life does not consist in the abundance of the things you possess. Set your Mind on the Giver of life.
What is your Mind telling you to do with the riches that God has given you?
What are you planning to do with the opportunities of life that you are privileged to have?
Is your Mind mindful of the fact that all perfect gift is from above (God)?
Is your Mind glorying God with all that you are blessed with or you are using it to oppress people?
Has pride fill your heart because of all you have received by grace, and mercy of God?
Is your Mind telling you to forget offering your time, talent, treasure/money, gifts, and resources to promote kingdom agenda?
Is your Mind-set helping you to walk and work on the path of wisdom or foolishness?
The soul of the rich man was deceived through self-deception and that same night his soul was taken from him by the Owner. Your heart can be regenerated and your Mind can be transformed today by the owner also. God is the owner of our lives and all things that we possess. Acknowledging Him with all our resources, is the sure way to have more and live long in good health to enjoy them.
Start today by setting your Mind on what God want for your life. Luke 12:31
I pray for you today, that you will not act like this foolish rich man no matter the level of your riches here on earth. May your soul crave for riches towards God above earthly riches. The riches and prosperity that you receive from God will not make you forget Him. Your riches will be use to expand the kingdom and bless humanity. In all your pursuit in life, you will not leave God out of your plans. Your Mind will not wander away from the true God in Jesus name, amen.
The kingdom of God is the kingdom of the soul. The soul consist of your emotion, mind and will. God wants to control your soul. Surrender your soul to Jesus today.
Your Transformation is my concern
